Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
